Rising Crimes Against Transpeople

Earlier in March 2023, the decomposed body of a 50-year-old transgender person was found dumped inside the storage compartment of her bed at her home in Nabi Karim, Delhi.

In January 2023, the body of a transgender person was found with their throat slit in Rajouri Garden, West Delhi. Police arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with the murder. This incident happened just days after a transgender woman was murdered by her boyfriend.

What’s with the violence towards transgender people or, in general, the entire LGBTQIA+ community? Why can’t people just live and let live? What makes another individual’s gender identity and sexual orientation so bothersome to some people that they resort to violence against them? Is expecting basic humanity in society a big ask? It’s so disheartening to see such gruesome crimes against the queer community happening repeatedly while a section of society is marching towards an inclusive future this Pride month.
