Trinamool Congress Appoints Arpita Ghosh As Bengal General Secretary
The announcement was made by TMC state unit president Subrata Bakshi in a letter to Arpita Ghosh. Rajya Sabha chairman accepted her resignation from the Upper House
TMC leader Arpita Ghosh: Former member of Rajya Sabha Arpita Ghosh has been appointed as the state general secretary by the Trinamool Congress on Friday.
The announcement of the appointment comes two days after the Rajya Sabha chairman accepted her resignation. TMC state unit president Subrata Bakshi in a letter to Ghosh shared the news of her new appointment.
West Bengal: Arpita Ghosh has been appointed as General Secretary of Trinamool Congress with immediate effect.
Ghosh had stated that her decision to step down from the Rajya Sabha was taken on deliberation with the party’s top leadership. The decision was not forced upon her. The theatre activist- turned-politician was earlier also a member of the Lok Sabha. She said that are differences between being an MP of the Upper House and the Lower House.
According to the report by TOI, Ghosh stated that when she was elected to the Rajya Sabha, the COVID-19 pandemic had just started. Thus, she didn’t get much chance to deliver as an MP. Now, she wants to concentrate more on organisational affairs and devote more time to theatre which is her passion.
On September 15, it was announced that Ghosh would be resigning from the Rajya Sabha. She submitted her resignation to Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, who accepted it according to a notification from the Rajya Sabha Secretariat. Her resignation took many of her own party members by surprise.

It read “Ms. Arpita Ghosh, an elected Member of the Council of states, representing the state of West Bengal, resigned her seat in the Rajya Sabha, and her resignation has been accepted by the chairman, Rajya Sabha, September 15.
Ghosh was elected to Rajya Sabha in March 2020. She lost in the Balurghat Constituency during the last Lok Sabha polls.
