D Jayakumar of AIADMK reportedly watched the film in theatre and said that some references were not factual. Barring them, he said that the movie was well-made one and it will receive good response from both part supporters as well as the general audience.

While talking to PTI, the former minister referred to the scene in the film were MG Ramachandran, known as MGR, was denied a minister post by M Karunanidhi. He said that MGR was never after such a post.

MGR was part of the then-DMK party founded by late CN Annadurai. Annadurai defeated Congress in 1967 elections and became the first regional party Chief Minister in independent India. When Karunanidhi became head of DMK, MGR parted ways and formed a new party named AIADMK in 1972. After Annadurai died in 1969, MGR became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

Jayakumar said that when MGR was undergoing treatment after he shot by late actor MR Radha, the party carried his injured pictures in posters. It played a huge role in the victory of DMK. The AIADMK also said that Annadurai himself wanted to make MGR a minister but he refused. Later he was made deputy chief of Small Savings, a newly created post. Jayakumar said that the scene in Thalaivii showed as if MGR asked for a minister post after Annadurai's death. " This is not true, " he said.

Jayakumar went on to say, "It would be better if the scene is deleted." He also objected to scenes which showed that late J. Jayalalithaa was in contact with the them Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. Jayakumar also said that the scene showing that MGR belittled Jayalalithaa were not true.

He said that if these scenes are deleted, the film will become a big hit.
