The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, has sparked outrage and demands for accountability.

The Viral Video and Its Aftermath

The woman student, associated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), was part of a protest organized by students of Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU). The protest aimed to voice opposition to the state government's decision to allocate 100 acres of university land for the construction of a new High Court complex.

As tension escalated during the protest, the ABVP called for support, leading to a precautionary measure by the local police, who took 20 protestors into preventive custody. It was during this period that the distressing incident took place.

A widely circulated video on social media captured the moment when two women constables, riding scooters, pursued the ABVP student. Shockingly, one of the policewomen seized the student by her hair, causing her to fall to the ground. The incident has since ignited a storm of criticism and calls for action against the involved law enforcement personnel.

Rajendra Nagar police inspector shed light on the situation, stating, "Today a protest was held at PJTSAU in which ABVP members also participated. We had taken around 20 protestors into preventive custody. Some protestors were running towards the road, during which an incident happened where a woman constable, by mistake, held a protestor by her hair, following which she fell to the ground."

Both parties, the policewoman and the student, were brought to the police station, where the constable claimed it was an unintended mistake, and the student affirmed it was not personal. No formal complaint was filed by the student.

Political Response and Calls for Accountability

Opposition leader K. Kavitha swiftly responded to the incident, demanding an "unconditional apology" from the Telangana Police. Expressing deep concern, she called on the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to intervene promptly and take stringent action against those involved.

In a statement posted on social media, K. Kavitha remarked, "The recent incident involving Telangana police is deeply concerning and absolutely unacceptable. Dragging a peaceful student protester and unleashing abrasive behaviour on the protestor raises serious questions about the need for such aggressive tactics by the police."
