The Students' Federation of India (SFI) claimed that Ankita Biswas, a potential candidate from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) for the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) election, forcibly entered Miranda House and caused a disturbance on the campus. As of now, there has been no immediate response from either the Miranda House administration or the ABVP regarding the allegations.

SFI Protests Against ABVP Candidate's Ruckus at Miranda House

Aditi Tyagi, representing the SFI, accused Ankita Biswas, a potential ABVP DUSU candidate, of forcibly entering the campus and causing disturbances, which made female students feel unsafe. Tyagi pointed out that this tactic of entering college premises with non-collegiate local individuals and harassing students had allegedly been employed by ABVP in various colleges, including Aditi Mahavidyalaya, Ramanujan College, and Miranda House.

The SFI called upon the student community to oppose what they perceive as unruly behaviour disguised as election activities. They expressed concerns about the rampant hooliganism associated with the elections.

The Delhi University Students' Union elections are scheduled for September 22, marking their return after a four-year hiatus. This union serves as the primary representative body for students across most colleges and faculties, with each college conducting its own annual student union elections.

Similar incidents have occurred at Miranda House in the past. Last year, in October, female students at Delhi University's Miranda House reported that several men had unlawfully entered the campus by scaling the walls.

According to Professor Bijayalaxmi Nanda, the college's principal, on October 14, during a Diwali Mela celebration programme, entry was initially permitted for all college students. However, as a large crowd gathered inside, the college administration made the decision to close the entry gates. In response, it is alleged that a number of men bypassed security and entered the college premises by climbing over the wall.

The Women's Development Cell at the college stated, "Many attendees of the festival, primarily men, went entirely out of control at this move and reacted aggressively when the administration prevented them from being on campus."
