B Saraswathi was a 35-year-old government school teacher who was also a resident there in Bhaamgal mandal of Nizamabad district of Telangana. She died by suicide and was reportedly unhappy about her transfer to a faraway village allocated to her by the Government Order(GO) 317 in December 2021.
She is survived by her two children and a husband who works in Qatar.
Telangana Government School Teacher Suicide Case:
Saraswathi was transferred to a school in village Marklakunta of Kamareddy district as a result of GO by the Telangana government in December 2021.
Some of her colleagues informed the media agencies about appeals being made by her to the officials as the new place she was posted was 60km away from her home. However, the appeal was rejected. Ultimately, she had to join at school in Maralakunta. She was reportedly posted in a school that had a single teacher so it did not allow her to get any time off.
The Sub Inspector of Bheemgal, Prabhakar said in an interview with The News Minute about the complaint made by the family members of the woman. According to him, “She has been upset about being transferred to Kamareddy district. She took the extreme decision only because of the transfer”.
The police has registered a case under section 174 (enquiring and reporting on suicide by police )of Code of Criminal Procedure.
Her death has caused political unrest in the state. BJP called for “Chalo Babapur” on January 10 and many leaders have also been detained by the police.
Tension prevailed in Babapur on Monday, January 10, as police fortified the village following the BJP’s call for ‘Chalo Babapur’ programme. Several leaders who have been constantly demanding the repealing of GO, were detained by the police . Many leader from national party recently visited Telangana and have termed Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s rule as “dictatorial”.
What is GO 317?
There have been protests going around in Telangana regarding the Government Order (GO) 317. It was introduced in the state on December 6,2021. The order by state government has introduced zonal system for job allocation in the state. The state of Telangana got reorganised into 31 new districts(earlier 10 districts). Among the new districts added includes Kumuram Bheem, Manchiryal, Nirmal, Warangal Urban, Warangal Rural, Mahboobabad.
