Badminton player Saina Nehwal reacted to the comments made against her by Tamil actor Siddharth and said that he could have used better words to express himself.
Last week, Siddharth drew flak for his ‘sexist’ tweet about Nehwal. It involved Nehwal’s tweet about Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleged security breach. Nehwal wrote in a tweet on January 5, “No nation can claim itself to be safe if the security of its own PM gets compromised. I condemn, in the strongest words possible, the cowardly attack on PM Modi by anarchists. #BharatStandsWithModi #PMModi.” It was in reference to an incident that took place in Punjab where PM Modi’s convoy had to about 15-20 minutes on a flyover as protestors had blocked a route.
Retweeting Nehwal’s post, Siddharth wrote, “Subtle cock champion of the world… Thank God we have protectors of India. Shame on you #Rihanna.” He was then called out for his derogatory remark against the badminton player. The actor later on made another tweet to clarify on the earlier one. He wrote, “COCK & BULL” That’s the reference. Reading otherwise is unfair and leading! Nothing disrespectful was intended, said or insinuated. Period.”
Apart from social media users, the National Commission for Women’s chairperson Rekha Sharma also condemned Siddharth for his remark. Sharma wrote, “This man needs a needs or two. Why this person’s account still exists? Taking it up with concerned Police.”

Saina Nehwal gave her statement about the same on Monday to a news publication. She said, “Ya I’m not sure what he meant. I used to like him as an actor but this was not nice. He can express himself with better words but I guess it’s Twitter n u remain noticed with such words n comments.” She added that if the security of the Prime Minister of India is an issue then she is not sure what is secure in the country.
