A Swedish woman named Christen Liebert flew to India to marry Pawan Kumar, a man whom she befriended on Facebook. The couple got married according to Hindu tradition at a school in Etah, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday.

The couple, Christen Liebert and Pawan Kumar, reportedly met on Facebook in 2012. Pawan Kumar worked as an engineer at a firm after completing his B.Tech. from Dehradun.

He said that his family did not have any objection to the marriage.

“We have been friends for so long and we were also sure of our commitment to the relationship,” he said.

Christen Liebert was dressed in a red lehenga according to traditional Hindu customs. The video of the couple’s marriage was shared by Asian News International.

The groom’s family did not have any objections to the marriage. Pawan Kumar’s father, Geetam Singh, said, "Our happiness lies in the happiness of our children. We totally agree with this marriage."

Rhiannon Harries, a British diplomat, married an Indian man in February 2022. Harries, who works in New Delhi as Britain’s Deputy Trade Commissioner, took to her Twitter handle to announce her marriage to an Indian man. She shared photos from her wedding, in which she is dressed as a traditional Hindu bride in a red lehenga. "When I arrived in India nearly 4 years ago, I had many hopes and dreams for my time here. But never did I imagine I would be meeting and marrying the love of my life. I found such happiness in Incredible India & so glad it will always be a home," the bride wrote.
