The incident took place during Gavaskar's commentary as Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals competed on the cricket field. It was an IPL 2022 match that was taking place at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Friday. Hetmyer came in to bat after RR lost their fifth wicket in their 151 run chase against CSK.

It is then Gavaskar decided to make an avoidable comment. "Hetmyer's wife delivered, will Hetmyer deliver for the Royals now?" He had left RR to travel to Guyana and be with his wife, who was pregnant with their first child. The baby was born on May 10 this year.

After spending time with his wife, the cricketer returned to the tournament and joined the Royals back. This comment by Gavaskar, where he unnecessarily dragged the birth of Hetmyer's child and his wife to compare with his performance was noticed by the netizens.

One user pointed out, "Sunil Gavaskar said, 'Sunil Gavaskar and his commentary, I cannot. Virat then, Hetmyer now. Maybe nothing is 'sexist' about his comments as such but just bringing up people's personal lives and their spouses during a professional cricket match is sick. And ofc his commentary toward Kohli is sick af."

During the IPL 2020 Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Kings XI Punjab match, Kohli was dismissed and Gavaskar in his commentary said, "Inhone lockdown me to bas Anushka ke gendon ki practice ki hain (Virat Kohli has only trained against Anushka's balls during the lockdown)."

These comments are the least expected from a former skipper. It is not only sexist but it is improper to bring in a cricketer's spouse during a professional match. Cricket has done the amazing task of blurring boundaries between people but their have been increasing instances of sexism. This exists in the comments, the social media dms, the commentary, amongst other sections of the sport.
