She had been the target of an accused named Deepak Rathore's harassment for a considerable amount of time, and he had grown frustrated with her refusal to accept his marriage proposal.

Pooja was a local resident who used to work at a restaurant and resided there with her mother and two sisters. She was getting ready to leave for work that day in Basant Vihar Colony by starting her scooter when the accused stopped her and started firing. After that, he left the area.

The woman passed away on the spot, according to authorities. An immediate manhunt was started to find the suspect, who was eventually apprehended on Thursday following a brief gunfight in which a police officer reportedly suffered injuries. According to an official, there was a gunfight between the police and the suspect, who was also wounded by bullets before being apprehended.

Following leads, the police located the suspect Thursday near Mandu Town and detained him. He was told to give in by the police, but he fired at them as he tried to flee. According to Manoj Kumar Singh, the superintendent of police for the Dhar district, the police then opened fire on the suspect in self-defence before apprehending him and injuring the suspect's legs with bullets.

A weapon and a motorcycle were taken from the scene by the police, who also added that the accused was brought right away to a nearby hospital.

In 2020, the deceased woman filed a case against Rathore under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code (attack or use of criminal force on any woman with the intent to offend her modesty). She filed a second complaint against him for assaulting her in 2021, according to the official.

However, after his mother consumed poison and died by suicide, Rathore filed a complaint against the woman and her family. According to investigators, the accused claimed his mother killed herself because she refused to marry him and her family stood by her.
