Actor and politician Sonali Phogat died of a suspected heart attack in Goa on August 21. The late Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) leader served as the National Vice President of BJP's Mahila Morcha and travelled to Goa with her staff members. She is survived by her daughter Yashodhara Phogat.
The BJP leader Sonali Phogat had travelled to Goa with her staff and was rushed to the hospital after she complained that she was feeling uneasy. The late Phogat's family has questioned that the circumstances surrounding Phogat’s death.
Sonali Phogat Death Investigation
Yashodhara Phogat, the daughter of the late politician demanded justice for her mother and added that her death needed to be investigated. She spoke to news agency ANI and said, “The case requires proper investigation and the culprits should get strict punishment.”
Phogat’s brother Rinku Dhaka filed a complaint with the Anjuna police in Goa and called the BJP leader’s death a “preplanned murder”. Dhaka has said that he would not grant consent to conduct a post-mortem of Phogat until the police lodged an FIR against the culprits.
Dhaka alleged that Phogat was murdered by two of her associates. He claimed that shortly before her passing, Phogat had a telephonic conversation with her family and complained about her associates. Dhaka further claimed that laptops, CCTV cameras, and electronic devices from her farmhouse in Haryana went missing after her death.
Phogat’s family demanded that the post-mortem examination be conducted at the All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi or in Jaipur.
Sonali Phogat was brought to St Anthony Hospital in Anjuna in Goa after she complained of uneasiness while at a restaurant. The Director General of Police Jaspal Singh said there is no foul play in the case and that no external injury marks were found on the body.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant ordered an investigation into Phogat’s passing but said that preliminary reports from doctors and the police indicated that cardiac arrest caused her death.
