Assam Assault Case: Six people, including two women, were arrested in Bengaluru, late Thursday night, in connection to a case of rape and assault of a woman.

Assam Police had sought information about the accused on Thursday, as they shared visuals from a video circulating on social media.

The police has traced the origin of the video to a gang of people based in Bengaluru as per news agency ANI.

"Based on contents of video & preliminary probe, case of rape & assault registered against 6 persons including 2 women at Ramamurthynagar PS. A police team deputed to adjoining state to trace victim so she could join investigation," said Kamal Pant, Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru.

"All of them are part of same group & are believed to be from Bangladesh. The victim who is also a Bangladeshi was brought to India for trafficking & was tortured & brutalised due to a financial matter," added Kamal Pant, Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru.

What did the video contain?
Based on a video clip, one woman was subjected to physical abuse and tortured by a group of people, five culprits including a woman as per a statement by Bengaluru Police said.
Minister Steps In

Union minister Kiren Rijiju followed up on the case, asking the police of all states and Union territories to help in finding the culprits. It was being claimed that the video assault of the woman was linked to the alleged suicide of a Nagaland woman in Rajasthan on Sunday. However, Rijiju clarified on social media that the two incidents were completely separate and that the assault video was being investigated. "The viral video of a girl from North-East being brutally raped and tortured by 4 men & 1 women is not related to Jodhpur suicide case. I had detail discussion with the Police Commisioner of Jodhpur. However, there must be all out efforts by all State Police to catch the devils," read his tweet.
