Kajol had told Mid-Day while talking about Devi that she was glad to be a part of the film. “I couldn’t have chosen a better subject for my first short film. It’s a poignant film, one that needs to be shared with the world, especially today,” the actor said.
While talking about the character, she added, “My character, Jyoti, is vastly different from me, but uncannily, we share a lot of similarities. In today’s times when gender discrimination, abuse, and violence is being spoken about vociferously, films like Devi are far more relevant.’’
Kajol has also shared a glimpse of the shoot of Devi on her Instagram profile, saying “BTS of Devi. Thank you, Niranjan Iyengar (Producer) and Ryan Stephen (Producer) for making me a part of this statement. Some things need to be seen to be understood on a deeper level.”
This will be Kajol’s and Shruti’s first short film. Earlier, Shruti had shared Devi’s first poster on Instagram earlier this year.
The post garnered positive response as many people said they were eagerly waiting for the release of the film.
Women-centric Bollywood Movies to Look Out For In 2020
Saina is a biopic based on the life of the Indian badminton star, Saina Nehwal. The movie is directed by Amole Gupte and Parineeti Chopra will be playing the role of Saina. Whereas Manav Kaul will play the character of Pullela Gopichand, her coach.
The Alia Bhatt staring movie is directed by Sanjay Leela Bansali. The movie is based on Hussain Zaidi’s novel Mafia Queens of Mumbai. Gangubai Kathiawadi was known as the ‘Madam of Kamathipura’, who was a brothel owner in the 1960s. The film is a bold take on the issue of prostitution, which is hardly talked about.
Tapsee Pannu starrer Thappad, directed by Anubhav Sinha will hit the screen on women’s day this year. “The film explores the basis of a man-woman relationship and gender equality through an engaging story of a husband and wife,” reports Times of India.
