Woman Accuses Former UP Shia Waqf Board Chief Waseem Rizvi Of Rape: 10 Things To Know

A woman has accused Waseem Rizvi of sexually assaulting her for the past five years. Her husband has been working as Rizvi's driver for several years.

Waseem Rizvi rape case: The former chief of Uttar Pradesh's Shia Waqf Board, Waseem Rizvi has been accused of rape and blackmail by his driver's wife. According to reports, the woman alleged in her complaint that Rizvi had been sexually assaulting her for the past five years and used to send her husband out on the pretext of work to rape her.

This isn't however the first allegation of misconduct against Rizvi. In 2019, an activist filed a complaint against Rizvi, accusing him of repeatedly assaulting her and keeping her as a captive.

Here are 10 things we know about the rape allegations against Rizvi:

1. The survivor, along with her husband, filed a complaint against Rizvi on Tuesday, June 22 at the Saadatganj Police Station.

2. The couple's lawyers, who accompanied them to the police station demanded that action be taken against Rizvi.

3. Brijesh Yadav, who is the in-charge of Saadatganj Police Station said that investigation has been initiated based on the complaint.

4. According to the woman, her husband has been working as a driver for Rizvi, for many years.

5. The survivor has alleged that Rizvi used to forcibly have physical relations with her and would send her husband out on the pretext of work to do so.

6. In her complaint, the women said that Rizvi has been sexually assaulting her for five years and when she resisted, he allegedly intimidated her saying that he would release her obscene pictures and videos on the internet.

7. When the woman revealed the matter to her husband, he went to Rizvi's home to confront him.

8. He was reportedly thrashed, stripped, and his mobile phone and driving license was taken away. According to the woman, the couple vacated the quarter provided by Rizvi the very day.

9. She also alleged that since the day, they have been living in fear and registered a complaint with the help of councillors and lawyers at the Saadatganj Police Station.

10. Rizvi has denied all charges against him and said that he was receiving threats after his statement regarding the Quran.  He further added that his driver had colluded with his opponents and had been spying on him.
