Legendary social worker Baba Amte’s granddaughter, Sheetal Amte-Karajgi bids adieu to the world in the year that has already snatched many renowned names. She allegedly consumed poison which took her life at Anandwan in Chandrapur. She was the CEO and board members of Maharogi Sewa Samiti (Leprosy Services Committee) at Warora, helping people disadvantaged by leprosy in Maharashtra. Amte was recognised for her leadership roles and her service for the upliftment of the marginalised sections of the society. Her sudden death has left many people sad, disoriented and wondering about the stress she was suffering. People took to social media to express their shock, grief and condolences.
Sachin Haralkar, a photojournalist at MumbaiMirror took to Twitter to express his grief. He said, "Very shocking and sad news. Dr Sheetal Amte died by suicide this morning. She was a granddaughter of late Dr Baba Amte."

Writer and Op-ed columnist Sandip Ghose tweeted, "Don't know the facts. But, a very sad news indeed. This is not the first such case of suicide one has heard in the social sector. Shows how it is beset with politics as any other field."
Sony Kapoor, a policy entrepreneur at WEF YGL tweeted, "I am totally devastated and shattered to read about the passing of my dear friend and fellow @wef @YGLvoices @AmteSheetal. She was one of the most amazing, warm, caring, friendly, talented people I knew. Her loss leaves a hole that cannot be filled #RIP"

Referring to Amte's last tweet, actor and politician Urmila Matondkar tweeted, "Saddened n shocked.. One really never know what games d mind is playing.."
Author and photographer Sanjukta Basu quoted Amte's painting and said, "She left this as what we call a suicide note. War and peace. So shocking and heart-breaking. #SheetalAmte #RIP"
A Twitter user wrote about depression and how mysterious and uncertain it can be. The tweet, which embedded Amte's painting, read, "Depression is not always crushing, dark, endless screaming or scary. Sometimes, the color bleeds out of your life, leaving you gray and empty. And you don't even notice until after it's happened"
