National Commission for Women(NCW) took cognisance of the Shahdara rape case and condemned the shameful incident. Besides, the commission has also sought time-bound investigation and punishment for all the people involved in the crime. NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma has written a letter to the Delhi Police Commissioner for ensuring the immediate arrest of the accused and security to the survivor's family.
NCW is the body responsible to represent the rights of women in India and voicing the issues and concerns affecting them.
NCW Takes Cognisance Of Shahdara Rape Case
The case concerns sexual assault on a woman from Kasturba Nagar of the Shahdara district in New Delhi where she was allegedly abducted and gangraped. Later on, the same woman was paraded on the street after blackening her face among the cheering crowds by a group of women and girls who laughed at the woman and some even hit her with slippers. The survivor's head was later shaved and she was garlanded with shoes.
11 people have been arrested which includes 9 women in the concerned case and the NCW has also demanded the action taken reported within 48 hours. As per the reports of the incident that was reported by the husband of a 20-year-old woman.

A total of 11 people, including 9 women have been arrested in connection with the incident in Kasturba Nagar in Shahdara District of the national capital in which a woman was allegedly abducted, gang-raped, and paraded on the streets with her face blackened with ink, head shaved and with a garland of shoes around her neck.
Based on reports received by NCW, it has been observed that the crime attracts various provisions of law under the Indian Penal Code- section 376-D(related to the rape of woman), section 352(assaults or uses criminal force to any person), section 506(Punishment for criminal intimidation) and section 509(intending to insult the modesty of any woman).
