The 17-year-old girl who was wearing a knee-length black dress over a white turtle-neck top was told that her outfit "reminded her female teacher of a lingerie outfit".

Besides that, she was also told that her dress could make any male student, teacher "feel uncomfortable". The NorKam Senior Secondary School which is located in Kamloops, British Columbia stated that her dress violated the school's dress code.

Karis' father Christopher Wilson shared a video in which he spoke about how fumed he was with the school's unfair decision. He accused the school staff of making matters worse, and said that Karis' 'inappropriate outfit' was actually very modest'.

"My beautiful, Grade 12, 17-year-old daughter went to school today feeling excited, feeling good about herself, ready to learn and she sat down in class and after a short period of time, was centred out by the teacher, and was told the outfit she was wearing made, or could make, her or the teacher's assistant, who is a male, feel uncomfortable," he said in the video.

Christopher also said that his daughter was utterly disappointed and upset with the day's events.

Karis' so-called inappropriate outfit makes students support her

Karis Wilson's classmates staged a walkout to showcase their support for her. "If there's a silver lining to this, that centred out and awkward, have everyone stand up, stand beside you and say, no, this isn't OK, we're with you," they said. Some of them held up signs and chanted “I stand with Karis” and “My body my choice.”

Dr Terry Sullivan, the superintendent of schools for District 73 said that they do understand the parent's concern. Sullivan assured that they will be looking into the matter, and have decided to not comment on it specifically.
