Who Is Shakti Dubey?

Shakti Dubey is a biochemistry graduate from Banaras Hindu University. She was a Physics, Chemistry, Biology (PCB) student in school. Dubey began her UPSC journey in 2018. However, her journey was not easy. After five missed attempts, Dubey told the media that she almost gave up on her dream of becoming a civil services officer.

In the first 3 attempts, Dubey could not clear the preliminary exams. In the fourth round, she reached the interview round but couldn’t clear it. Last year, she missed the cut-off by just 12 marks. "That was the lowest point in my life. I thought I should just give up," she told The Indian Express. She said she studied for over 8-10 hours a day.

Dubey's discipline proved fruitful this year, as she secured the rank that lakhs of aspirants dream of. As an Indian Administrative Services officer, she hopes to address critical issues like women's safety. Her top choice for her cadre is Uttar Pradesh. “I understand the issues of Uttar Pradesh better, and I’ve lived there all my life," she said.

Shakti Dubey also shared advice for aspirants. "Always remember that this is just an examination. It is not more important than life. If you are confident that you can improve and if your family is supportive, that is all you need," she told the Asian News International. She also advised taking regular mock tests and focusing on questions from the previous years.
