Directed by veteran filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and produced by Mukesh Bhatt, Sadak 2 is one of the seven movies lined up for a Multiplex release on Disney+Hotstar. Of these seven, Dil Bechara and Lootcase have already premiered on the platform last month. Originally scheduled for a 10 July release, the dilemma over reopening of theatres and multiplexes pushed the producers to go for an OTT release.

Sadak 2 is a sequel to Sadak (1991), which was also directed by Mahesh Bhatt. The film marks Mahesh Bhatt's comeback to direction after almost two decades. The 1991 hit starred Pooja Bhatt and Sanjay Dutt.

Alia Bhatt gives insight into Sadak 2

Alia Bhatt shared the film's poster on Instagram with the caption, “And here we go. SADAK 2 - The road to love is the ONLY road to take. Streaming on @DisneyPlusHotstarVIPfrom 28 August #DisneyPlusHotstarMultiplex @adityaroykapur @duttsanjay@poojab1972 @maheshfilm#mukeshbhatt.”

The actress has called this project a "homecoming" for her, “The journey of Sadak began with three people – Mahesh Bhatt, Pooja Bhatt and Sanjay Dutt. Aditya (Roy Kapur) and I are newbies in this Sadak universe. This film is way more than a film for me because this is homecoming in its true sense. The entire family has got together to make this film, and hence the emotions were at a different level altogether,” reported The Indian Express.

She also revealed that Sadak 2  is a continuation and not a recreation of the already existing Sadak universe. "Ravi’s journey goes forward, and he meets two new people. Sadak 2 is the road to love and has different love stories. There’s also a thrill to it because Maharani was a very iconic villain of that time. Even this time, the villain is very different. It’ll be totally unexpected. Also, when I was a kid, I used to be so excited about the songs in my father’s films. I would dream about me featuring in his songs. That came true. Today, I can proudly say that I have become a small part of the Bhatt camp’s songs.”

Mukesh Bhatt on being compelled to go digital

“I am compelled to come (on digital platform) because I don’t see any light in the near future. This is the best I can do to survive. There are certain things that you do, not out of choice but out of compulsion. This is the only option left. It is a no-brainer,” producer Mukesh Bhatt said in an interview with Press Trust of India (PTI), reports Hindustan Times.

Both the viewers and creators of films prefer a big-screen experience, according to Mukesh Bhatt and the trend of OTT premieres is temporary. “People need outing, big screen entertainment is fun. It is a temporary phase. We need to understand it rationally and not blast or put each other down. We should lift each other up.
