The Badminton World Federation stated the nominations of Sindhu and Li as athlete ambassadors for the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) 'Believe in Sport' campaign on May 3, Monday.

Along with Sindhu and Li, another athlete ambassadors from around the world will also be working for the same campaign, raising awareness on opposition manipulation amongst athletes.

The Rio Olympics silver medallist, PV Sindhu said, "It is an honour to be nominated by the IOC as an athlete ambassador. I stand alongside my fellow athletes in the fight against any form of cheating or competition manipulation. Together we are stronger," regarding the nomination.

BWF Secretary General Thomas Lund said that competition manipulation has become an increasingly global concern and it is their top priority to protect honest players.

"By joining forces with the IOC in nominating two of our most popular players, Sindhu and Li as ambassadors, we believe we can have a positive impact in the fight to protect integrity in sport."

The 'Believe in Sport' campaign, launched in 2018, was to raise awareness among athletes, coaches and officials of the threat of competition manipulation. Manipulation or match-fixing in the game (badminton) includes influencing the course or the result of a match. This can be done to obtain an advantage for the individual or others.

The IOC and BWF are committed to fighting all forms of deception that threaten the integrity and spirit of sport.
