Pune Man Chases And Attacks Woman, Locals Intervene To Help

With a Machete in hand, a man chased down a woman on the streets of Pune in broad daylight before he was overpowered by the locals and handed over to the cops on Tuesday.

The accused has been identified AS Shantanu Laxman Jadhav, 22, a resident of Mulshi, and the woman is Priti Ramachandra, 19, a college student. The incident happened in the Sadashiv Peth area of Pune around 9.30 am. Caught on street CCTV, the video is now doing the viral rounds on the internet.

Pune Man Attacks Woman

The CCTV footage shows a woman dressed in an orange kurta and black pants with her face covered in a white dupatta on a scooter with a boy. The accused stopped the vehicle, took out the machete from his backpack, and began attacking the woman. She immediately fled from the attacker, who chased her vigorously, armed with the machete in hand.

The woman is then seen fleeing across the street while the man chases her. He then hits her on the back, causing her to fall face-first to the ground. As she tries to get up, the man continues to attack her.

At this point, locals gathered and started throwing stones at the attacker to repel him away from the woman. Then they finally managed to restrain him and hand him over to the police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Pune Sandeep Singh Gill, stated that the accused has been taken into custody and charged with Section 307 under the Indian Penal Code for the attempt to murder. He also shared that the woman had sustained injuries to her head and hands from the weapon. She had been treated and was out of danger.

The woman’s mother claimed that the accused had been harassing her. She added that they had complained to the man’s father as well, and yet he had attempted to kill the woman. The police are now investigating further into the matter.
