Pregnant Forest Guard Assaulted In Satara: A video clip of a former Sarpanch assaulting a woman is making rounds on social media. The former Sarpanch along with his wife is seen to be beating a uniformed woman forest guard who is reportedly three months pregnant. The video was tweeted by Indian Forest Service Officer Praveen Angusamy on January 20, 2022.

The Maharashtra women commission has taken cognisance of the act as well and has asked police to take strict action against the accused in the case.

Pregnant Forest Guard Assaulted By Former Sarpanch

The former sarpanch is seen grabbing the woman guard by her hair and thrashing her along with his wife. While the villagers stood looking at the brutality, the woman forest guard tried to defend herself twice but failed. Aditya Thackrey, the Cabinet Minister of Tourism and Environment for the Government of Maharashtra, assured of the action been taken and informed of the arrest of the accused. He wrote,"The accused has been arrested this morning and will face the law at its strictest. such acts will not be tolerated."

The barbaric act caught on camera has received massive backlash from the public who feel that such an incident will deter the government official on duty to perform their job. The accused has been identified as former Sarpanch of Palsawade village in Satara taluk of Maharashtra.

The sections of the Indian Penal Code(IPC) that has been charged on the accused are- section 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), section 334(Voluntarily causing hurt on provocation), section 353(assault or use of the criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), section 504(Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), section 506(Punishment for criminal intimidation).

As per the reports of Times Of India, the incident occurred when the government official named Sindhu Sanap was trying to do her job of carrying the Tiger census along with her husband Suryaji. According to the Additional Superintendent of Police(ASP) Ajit Borade of Satara, "Ramchandra, the former sarpanch, is the head of the forest committee in the area. He along with his wife thrashed the forest guard Sindhu Sanap and her husband who is also a forest guard by the profession."

In an interview, Sanap told that the accused threatened her and demanded money from her as soon as she started working there. However, she did not agree to give him money for government work. They objected to the Tiger census that began three days ago and later attacked her.

The accused fled from the site after the incident. While the former sarpanch is under arrest, his wife has been detained and would be arrested after a medical checkup. The assaulted forest guard's medical report is yet to come out.
