Before Kameshwari, Mumbai's Shashikala Joshi was the oldest woman to get vaccinated. She was 100-year-old and took the first jab on March 5 along with her daughter who is 75-year-old.

Oldest Indian woman To get vaccine: A 103-year-old lady from Karnataka has become the country’s oldest female to be inoculated on Tuesday. Bengaluru resident J Kameshwari is now recognised as the oldest woman in India to have received the COVID-19 vaccine as per available data, said Apollo Hospitals, Bannerghatta Road.

ANI reported that Kameshwari was administrated by the healthcare workers at the hospital and has shown no side-effects so far. She was also accompanied by her 77-year-old son who got the vaccine dose too, as per reports.

Senior citizens above 60 and those above 45 years of age with co-morbidities are eligible to register and receive the jab currently. The nationwide immunisation drive started on March 1. The first phase started in mid-January with healthcare workers.

On Tuesday, a 103-year-old Noida resident was also administered the COVID-19 vaccine. He became the oldest person yet, in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddh Nagar district, to be inoculated against the novel coronavirus. Mahabir Prasad Maheshwari was accompanied by seven senior citizen members of his family who took the vaccine at a private hospital.

India's COVID-19 vaccination has crossed 2.40 crore coverage - and counting -  informed the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday.
