In Odisha, 85-Year-Old Cancer Patient And Wife Recover From COVID-19

Oldest COVID-19 survivors Odisha.

In the face of COVID-19, aged people and people with co-morbidities are considered most vulnerable. However, in a miracle, an Odisha-based couple – 85-year-old Surendra Pati and 78-year-old Sabitri – recently recovered from the deadly viral infection and got discharged from a hospital in Cuttack. Hailing from Kendrapara district, Surendra, who also has throat cancer, was receiving chemotherapy at the Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Centre from June 8. He contracted the virus first and Sabitri his wife, who was attending to him at the hospital, was later declared COVID-19 positive too. They were then shifted to a COVID-19 hospital in the city where the two went through further treatment and were discharged on July 17, Times of India reported.

On June 29, the couple had tested positive. Now the couple stands as the oldest COVID-19 survivors in the district, according to TOI.

Within ten days of being admitted in the COVID centre, Surendra and Sabitri returned home to Bagada village, on the outskirts of the district town. They both have now tested negative twice.

“…they inspire many to beat the disease. Our best wishes to them,” Kendrapara District Collector Samant Verma tweeted.
