A 24-year-old man was arrested by Borivli government railway police (GRP) for allegedly molesting a nurse on a local train. The police said that the accused touched the nurse inappropriately. The accused is suspected of having committed such offences previously.

According to reports, the accused Rameshwar Harijan reportedly boarded the train without a valid permit, said senior police inspector Bhadrak Pawar of Borivli GRP. Due to the pandemic, the local train services in Mumbai are suspended for common citizens and public. Only essential service workers are allowed to travel. Any person using the local trains in Mumbai currently is required to carry a permit for the same, which the accused didn’t have on him.

The incident occurred around 10:30 pm on Friday between Borivli and Kandivli stations. The 22-year-old nurse was on her way for her night shift duty at a government hospital from Goregaon, Hindustan Times reported. The accused boarded the train when it had halted between the two stations. During the train journey, he allegedly molested the nurse, said the police.

Nurse reported the incident to GRP

After the incident, the nurse got off at the Borivli station and approached the GRP to report it. According to the officer, the accused was seen on CCTV footage at various other stations on all the three suburban railway lines in the city. He is suspected to have committed similar crimes according to the footages, as per news reports.

“We are now verifying the complaints and trying to cross-check Harijan’s face with the CCTV recordings that we have in the other molestations cases,” said senior police inspector Pawar.
