Who Is Noel Tata, The New Chairman of Tata Trusts? Meet His Family

Maya and Leah, the children of Noel Tata, half-brother of the late Indian business tycoon Ratan Tata, are stepping into larger roles within the Tata Group's philanthropic trusts. Ratan Tata, who passed away in October, played a key role in shaping Tata Group into a global powerhouse. Until his death, he served as chairman of Tata Trusts, which indirectly controls around 66% of the group's holding company, Tata Sons. Tata Sons is the largest shareholder in major companies like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India's second-largest firm by market value, and Tata Motors, which owns Jaguar Land Rover.

Maya, Leah Tata Take on Bigger Roles In Tata Trusts

According to a report by The Economic Times, Noel Tata’s daughters, Maya and Leah, have now joined the board of trustees at the Sir Ratan Tata Industrial Institute (SRTI), a subsidiary of the Sir Ratan Tata Trust. They replaced Arnaz Kotwal and Freddy Talati. However, this change led to internal disagreements, with outgoing trustee Arnaz Kotwal expressing disappointment over being asked to resign to make way for the new members.

This move is seen as part of a broader transition within the Tata Group’s leadership. With these appointments, all three of Noel Tata’s children—Maya, Leah, and Neville, now hold positions on the boards of smaller Tata Trusts. However, they have not yet been inducted into the two main ones: the Sir Ratan Tata Trust and Allied Trusts, and the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and Allied Trusts.

As part of efforts to bring younger leadership into Tata Trusts, Maya, Leah, and Neville have also joined the boards of five other philanthropic organizations linked to the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and Sir Ratan Tata Trust. Their growing presence signals a new phase of leadership within one of India’s most influential business families.
