News Producer Shivani Dua Passes Away At 41 Due To COVID-19

A recent study has found that more than 300 media persons, including many well-known journalists, have lost their lives due to the second wave of COVID-19.

Senior journalist and news anchor Rajdeep Sardesai took to Twitter on Wednesday to share the news of the untimely demise of Shivani Dua, who had reportedly been battling COVID-19 for a few days but succumbed to the disease in Delhi recently. A graphic producer, Dua was only 41 years old.

"In tv news journey over last 30 years, many young producers have been at the core. Hard working, ever smiling, they were the backbone of a news wheel. Shivani Dua was a talented graphic producer, only 41.. too young to die: always remember your cheery presence. RIP. Om Shanti," tweeted senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai.

Commenting on the post, Journalist Nidhi Razdan wrote, "Another young colleague gone. No words." Sharing condolences, anchor and environment reporter at NDTV, Gargi Rawat tweeted, "This was a such a shock. She was a colleague at NDTV for so many years. So many young people gone too soon."

An IAS officer of the 1980 batch, Ashok Lavasa shared that he had spoken to Dua the day she got admitted in the hospital. "She sent me messages from the emergency ward. I thought she would be fine. Little did I know that day before when she didn’t reply to my message, she was fighting her last battle. That’s not done young lady. Shocked," he wrote. Another journalist and Dua's colleague, Richa Lakhera said it is very tragic to lose such a "calm and composed" person.

A recent study found that more than 300 media persons, including many well-known journalists, have lost their lives due to the second wave of the deadly virus. On average, three journalists died every day in April 2021. In May, this average climbed to four per day, according to a report by the Delhi-based Institute of Perception Studies. A total of 238 journalists (verified cases) have died due to COVID-19 infection from April 2020 to May 16, 2021.
