According to the Supreme Court, over 16 lakh students sit for NEET and so it can't be deferred on the plea of a few students who said that their entrance exams will be clashing with other exams.

"We will not entertain this petition. We do not want uncertainty. Let the exam continue,” the Bench said. It comprised Justice AM Khanwilkar, Justice Hrishikesh Roy, and Justice CT Ravikumar, as per sources.

The National Testing Agency on September 3 had clarified to the bench that the students would be allowed to appear for the examination. It doesn't matter if the CBSE results would be or wouldn't be declared by then.

“The non-declaration of result will not stop the students from appearing in the exam, and results will only be required during the counselling,” the NTA has said.

Last year also the Supreme Court had dismissed a petition filed by 11 students to defer NEET and JEE Mains in 2020. According to the plea, conducting exams across the country during coronavirus crisis would put lives of lakhs of young students in danger.

The top court, in a statement, had said that the careers of students cannot be put under jeopardy and so, it decided to conduct the exam as per schedule. Read more about this here.
