Female Applicants For NEET Increased 40.8 %, Over 9 Lakh Women Apply For 2021 Edition

The women applicants are expected to dominate the exams with two lakh more applicants compared to seven lakh male applicants.

The number of applications for NEET saw a major spike after the pandemic period, as per Times of India. The number of applicants opting to give the exam in Indian languages has also seen a significant growth with 3.4 lakh applicants this year.

In TOI data analysis report, the number of female applicants for the exam were shown at an all time high. Seeing a major shift in the last five years, over 9 lakh women applied for NEET this year. As per the reported data, the female applicants increased by 40.8 % during the last five years. The women applicants are expected to dominate the exams with two lakh more applicants compared to seven lakh male applicants.

It was found that female to male applicants ration was higher in most states except Uttar Pradesh, Tripura, West Bengal, Assam, Rajasthan and Bihar. Kerala state has the best female to male ration as it has 3.8 female applicants for every single male applicant. Goa has a ration of 2.8. Six states of the country have over two lakh female applicants. With nine lakh female candidates, their participation stands at 53.4 %.

NEET considered one of the most difficult undergraduate entrance test is held for admission of students to medical colleges for a bachelor degree in medicine and surgery. Qualifying candidates can also be taken in for bachelor of dental surgery, bachelor of ayurveda, medicine and surgery (BAMS), bachelor of siddha medicine and Surgery (BSMS), bachelor of Unani medicine and surgery (BUMS), homeopathic medicine and surgery and nursing programs.

Reportedly the number of applications saw an increase of one lakh between the pre and post pandemic period. This year, the number candidates opting to give the exam in Indian languages also increased with 2.3 lakh applications this year for taking the test in Hindi. An increase has been seen in other languages also, as per the report. Over 35,000 candidates have opted to give the exam in Bengali, 20,000 in Tamil and 50,000 in Gujarati.
