The society is still not free of patriarchal and narrow-minded people who are ready to do anything to fulfill their discriminating wishes. Since ages, male child have been given preference over girl child which has led to crimes like female infanticide, female foeticide, illegal sex determination of fetus and domestic violence. Despite of numerous campaigns and claims of women empowerment, there are still people in society who will go to extreme limits to have a male heir. One such case was observed in Pune where a woman was forced to take bath in public by a cleric, her husband and in-laws to bear a male child.

Muslim Cleric Forced Woman To Bath In Public In Pune Arrested

The woman was brought to the cleric by her husband and in-laws who wanted him to perform some ritual so that the woman would give birth to a son. The cleric allegedly told them that the only way to do so was for the woman to take a bath under a waterfall in Raigadh without clothes in front of her husband, in-laws and the cleric himself. The woman and her family travelled to Raigadh and performed the ritual after which the woman felt that it was wrong and filed a complaint against it.

The case was filed under the anti-superstition act, section 478 and of witchcraft act, fraud, domestic violence and human sacrifice at the Bharti Vidyapeeth Police Station against four people including the cleric, the in-laws and husband. The cleric was identified as Maulana Baba Jamdar of Kolhapur's Ichalkaranji who was reportedly arrested by the police shortly after the Maharashtra Andhashradhha Nirmoolan Samiti raised concerns and demanded quick action on the matter.

The woman also claimed that her in-laws used to beat and abuse her and have also forced her father to give them Rs 2 crores for business and gold ornaments of Rs 1 crore at the time of marriage. The in-laws mortgaged all the ornaments she received from her parents and had obtained Rs 75 lakhs from them.
