Man kills mother-in-law: A Mumbai based man allegedly killed his mother-in-law and inserted a bamboo shaft in her genitals. The police added section 377 of the Indian Penal Code (unnatural sex ) among other charges against the accused in the case. The man has been remanded to police custody till September 14.

According to the police, the son-in-law first assaulted the woman on the head with tiles. He then stabbed her with a knife and inserted a bamboo in her private part, pulling out an internal organ. "We added Section 377 (unnatural offences) of the IPC six days ago," the police said.
The assault took place in Mumbai's Vile Parle (East) area where the woman lived with her daughter. The accused had been jailed in a chain-snatching case for three years. He was released on September 1 post which he went to meet his wife, only to find out that she had married someone else and was now pregnant. The accused had asked his former wife to leave her new husband and return to him.
When he visited her the next day, he realised that she had left the place. On being asked, his mother-in-law refused to give him any details about her whereabouts. The accused ended up assaulting his mother-in-law, stabbing her multiple times. He was later arrested from Pune.
In 2019, the video of a woman thrashing her 80-year-old mother-in-law went viral. She was identified as Kanta Devi while the octogenarian was identified as Chand Bai. The incident of Devi pulling Bai by the hair was recorded by a schoolgirl on her cell phone. The police reached the spot on being informed and took the mother-in-law for medical examination.
