According to the statement given by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Nilesh Sonawane, the girl tried to frame another friend of hers, a minor, by accusing him of blackmail in order to save herself and her boyfriend.

On January 7, the girl filed a complaint with the Kapurbawdi police. She claimed her boyfriend had clicked obscene images of her and blackmailed her for money, says the reports. So she was forced to steal jewellery from her house and hand it over to him. Initially, the boy told the police that he had sold the jewellery.

Reportedly, further investigations revealed that no jewellery had been sold. The CCTV footage of the concerned shop had no video of the boy. Ultimately, the police discovered that the girl had given the jewellery to her actual boyfriend for their birthday celebration and fabricated this blackmail story to protect him.

This 18-year-old boyfriend, with whom she shares a birthday, had sold the jewellery in the Manpada area for Rs. 53,000, and the couple had celebrated their birthdays. According to the reports, the police arrested the boyfriend and the jeweller, who had purchased the jewels despite knowing that they were stolen.

Senior Inspector, Uttam Sonavane, of Kapurbawdi Police Station, said that cases had been registered against the accused under Sections 380 (theft in a dwelling house) and 411 (receiving stolen property) under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
