Moorje Sunitha Prabhu And Other Kids To Get Pradhan Mantri Bal Puraskar

Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar awards children under categories of innovation, scholastic, sports, arts and culture, social service and bravery. Meet three girls who are among the winners this year.

Moorje Sunitha Prabhu will be awarded Pradhan Mantri Bal Puraskar on January 22, 2020. Union Ministry of women and child welfare announced the award list for this year. The ministry chose her for this award for representing India in Science and Technology Fair held at Phoenix, USA, in 2019.  President Ram Nath Kovind will present Moorje with this award at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 22.

Prabhu will receive Rs 1 lakh and a citation along with the award. Moorje, who is from Belthangady is the daughter of Belthangady-based entrepreneur Vivekanand Prabhu and Shanthala Prabhu. On January 26, Moore and her parents will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Republic Day function. Moorje will also meet other dignitaries at the function. She is an alumna of Sri Manjunateshwara CBSE School, Ujire. She is now a pre-university student at CFAL, Mangaluru.

Other Children Selected For The Award

A tenth class Student, Akula Sai Samhitha will also receive Bal Shakti Puraskar 2020 under Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar. Akula won a gold medal in artistic skating in the cadet (girls) category at the 18th Asian Roller Skating Championship held at Namwon, South Korea in 2018. So far, Akula has won more than 65 medals for roller skating.

Like Moorje, President Ram Nath Kovind will present Akula with this award on January 22. Akula is a student of  Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vihar. The convener S.G. Chalam and principal A. Kausalya congratulated Akula for her achievement as per The Hindu report. The 14-years-old is the first girl from Andhra Pradesh to win a gold medal for roller skating internationally. She told Times of India “I am overjoyed to have made my country proud at the international championship.”

Further, Sukriti Chiripal, a social change agent who started NGO Sangam will also receive Bal Shakti Puraskar 2020 under Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar. The Modern High school student brought education into the lives of dozens of underprivileged and street kids. Last year, she also led many green campaigns as the Earth ambassador under a program supported by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Sukriti is an 18-years-old 12th class student. She mobilised more than 100 student volunteers through social media who coordinate online and collect books and stationery for underprivileged kids.

Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar awards children under categories of innovation, scholastic, sports, arts and culture, social service and bravery. Besides the above mentioned three girls, 23 other children will receive the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar award. The President Ram Nath Kovind Will present all the 26 children with the award.
