Minor Tribal Girl Raped At OAS Officer’s Residence In Bhubaneswar: Report

A senior officer of the Balichandrapur Police Station said that the police have registered a case under the relevant sections of IPC and POCSO Act.

The father-in-law of an OAS (Odisha Administrative Service) officer has been accused of raping a minor tribal girl for around five months and impregnating her at the officer’s residence in Bhubaneswar. The incident came to light when the survivor's mother registered a complaint in the Balichandrapur police station in Jajpur district seeking justice for her minor daughter.

According to the complaint, the survivor belonged to a poor family and hails from Nanpur area of Jajpur. The income of the family was precarious owing to the illness of her father. The mother of the survivor had reportedly engaged her as a domestic help at the officer’s house located in the Sailashree Vihar area of Bhubaneswar to help the family’s expenses.

The complaint alleged that the officer's father-in-law raped her for 5-6 months and threatened her to kill her if she dared to disclose the incident to anyone. The girl came home for Dussehra, suspecting a change in her physical appearance her mother asked her the reason which is when the survivor confided in her. The mother said, “After listening to the ordeal of my daughter, I went to the hospital for a medical examination and found her daughter pregnant. Later, I lodged a complaint with the Balichandrapur police,” quoted Odisha Bytes.

A senior officer of the Balichandrapur Police Station said that the police have registered a case under the relevant sections of IPC and POCSO Act. The statement of the survivor has been recorded at the POCSO court Jajpur and her medical examination has also been conducted at the district headquarters hospitals, reported Sambad English.
