Twist in the Tale: Mehul Choksi Names Barbara Jabarica In 'Abduction' Complaint

Mehul Choksi Barbara Jabarica Case: Choksi, in a kidnapping complaint lodged with Antigua police on June 2, has alleged that he was kidnapped and beaten by men who claimed to be Antiguan police. The fugitive jeweller wanted by the investigators in India has also named the mystery woman - Barbara Jabarica - who he claimed trapped him and helped in the "kidnapping". He is currently jailed and on trial in Dominica.

Choksi claimed Jarabica helped in his alleged abduction and illegal entry into Dominica after disappearing from Antigua on May 23. In the police complaint filed by his lawyers in Dominica, the 62-year-old businessman has also blamed Jarabica to be part of an elaborate abduction ploy in which he was transported from Antigua and Barbuda islands to Dominica. In the letter addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Choksi claimed he came to know Jabarica over the past year.

She lived opposite to his residential complex in Jolly Harbour but later shifted to Coco Bay Hotel, he said. He further said “the operation” to send him back to India did not go according to plan and that he was told by the crew of the boat that he was kidnapped and brought to Dominica to give an interview to a "high-ranking Indian politician", a report by the Indian Express suggested. He further noted that Jarabica was friendly with his staff and that he used to go for walks with her. On May 23 this year, when she requested him to pick her up from her house, he alleged that he was kidnapped by eight to ten "heavily muscled" men. The businessman says in his complaint that he suspects she was involved in his abduction because she "did not try to help". He went on to say that the men kept beating him and tasered him on his face, hands and exposed skin, causing burns. Choksi also alleged that they took his cell phone, Rolex watch and wallet.

As per Choksi's account the woman in question did not come out to help when he was being beaten up. According to him, Jabarica was a mute the entire time. "During this entire ordeal, Jabarica did not even attempt to help me or assist in any way by calling for help from outside." Choksi added that 'the manner' in which Jabarica conducted herself and didn't support him, make him conclude she was part of the 'entire scheme to kidnap me', his complaint said.
