Texas was recently ravaged by a severe spell of winter storms that have caused a water and electricity crisis in the state. A spokesperson for Harry and Markle was quoted saying they were "heartbroken to see communities across Texas still struggling to access the very basic resources we all need — water, heat, food, shelter.”

Genesis, which serves approximately 3700 women and children annually, shut down for the first time in 35 years due to the storm.

Jan Langbein, Genesis CEO, said in a statement about the Harry-Meghan Markle donation to Texas, "Not only will this gift provide for our critical needs, it shines an international spotlight on violence against women and children, letting survivors know that they are not alone.”
