Who is Atiq Ahmed?
Atiq Ahmed was a former member of the parliament of India as well as the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from the Samajwadi Party. He was elected as the Samajwadi Party candidate from Phulpur in Uttar Pradesh for the 14th Lok Sabha elections. Atiq Ahmed was also the president of Apna Dal between the years 1999-2003. More than 100 criminal charges are lodged against him, and he is considered one of the biggest gangsters of UP.

50 cases running on Atiq Ahmed are under trial in the other 12 of them he has got an acquittal, whereas in the other two Samajwadi Party government withdrew the cases in 2004. Recently Atiq Ahmed along with two others got served life imprisonment after the court in Prayagraj found him guilty with the two others in the case of Umesh Pal’s kidnapping in 2006. He was brought from the prison in Gujarat to Prayagraj following an approximately 24-hour journey by road on Monday by the police department of Uttar Pradesh.
Umesh Pal was shot dead by multiple shooters from behind while he was trying to get out of the backseat of a Hyundai Creta SUV on the 24th of February in Prayagraj. Two bodyguards from the police department accompanying him were also killed during the shootout. According to the police department, Atiq Ahmed got Umesh Pal killed because he named him a key accused in the 2005 murder case.
