Mary Kom Confirms Divorce From Husband Onler, Denies 'Affair' Rumours

Indian boxing legend Mary Kom has officially confirmed that she and her husband, Onkholer Kom, have separated. The couple has finalised their divorce with mutual consent, putting an end to their long-standing marriage. After weeks of rumours circulating on social media, Mary Kom broke her silence and released a public statement. In it, she addressed both the divorce and the personal allegations that had been making the rounds. Mary strongly denied any claims about her being in a relationship with someone named "Mr. Hitesh Choudhary" or with another boxer’s husband. She clarified that there is no truth to these rumours and that such speculation is baseless.

Mary Kom & Onler’s Relationship Strained Post-Election Loss, Say Reports

The couple, who tied the knot in 2005, were said to be living separately. The reported trouble in their marriage began after Onler lost the 2022 Manipur Assembly elections. The couple had allegedly spent nearly ₹2–3 crores on campaigning. The defeat and the financial burden are said to have deeply affected their relationship.

As per a Hindustan Times report, a source close to the couple shared, "Mary moved to Faridabad with their (four) children, while Onler has been living in Delhi with some family members." The report added, "Their differences escalated after the elections. Mary was reportedly unhappy about the financial losses – around INR 2–3 crores – incurred during the campaign and (the fact) that he lost."

According to reports, Onler wasn’t eager to join politics but agreed to contest the elections because of Mary’s suggestion. The report said, "It was Mary's idea. He didn't want to contest and had warned her that Manipur's political landscape was volatile at the time." It further added, "After the defeat, things worsened. Their usual marital disagreements turned serious, and Mary moved into her Faridabad house with the kids."

While there has been no official confirmation from either Mary or Onler, speculations about their separation are gaining attention. A fellow boxer, who spoke to HT on condition of anonymity, said, "The separation rumours about Mary Kom and Onler might not be just rumours. No one knows the reason for sure, though. Everyone whispers about Mary Ma'am being in a relationship with another boxer's husband. Speculation has been fuelled further by her recent Instagram posts featuring him as her business associate."

The report also touched upon the emotional impact this situation has had on Onler. A source said, "He's heartbroken. He has always been a devoted father and gave up his football career to support Mary and raise their kids. Now he's unable to meet them, and it's taken a toll on him emotionally. It is no secret that he put his career on hold so that Mary could build hers."
