The duo first met in 2016 and the man, K Kawshigan developed feelings for Nora Tan after they became friends.

The issue began in September 2020, after Tan stated that she only considered Kawshigan a friend, while he regarded her as his "closest friend."

After realising that Kawshigan was expecting more from the relationship, Tan suggested that they maintain a little distance and give him space to process the dynamics of their relationship.

Initially, Kawshigan wanted to sue her and sent a letter to Tan saying that he was "entitled to monetary damages arising from negligent infliction of emotional distress and possible defamation." However, he decided to pull it off after Tan agreed to attend counselling sessions with him to help him get over the idea of them being a couple.

During the process, Tan told Kawshigan that she felt "genuine discomfort." However, he didn’t take it well and said she could either comply with his demands or suffer "irrevocable" damage to her personal and professional lives.

After one and a half years of counselling, Kawshigan could not accept that Tan did not want to be in a relationship with him. Reportedly, Tan cut off contact and unable to accept this, Kawshigan filed two lawsuits against her—a 3 million dollar High Court claim for allegedly causing "damage to his stellar reputation" and "trauma, depression, and impacts" to his life.

Another lawsuit filed in Magistrate Court alleges breach of an agreement to improve their relationship." He claimed that the ordeal affected his ability to function as an "active high-capital trader by night and a busy CEO by day."

A pre-trial hearing is fixed for February 9, 2023, for the high court claim.
