A woman from the United States sued a man after he failed to show up for a date. In Missouri, failure to show up for a date nearly cost this man 10,000 dollars after the complainant accused him of intentionally inflicting emotional distress.
The story came to light after a clip from the Zoom court proceedings of the case was shared on social media. The Michigan woman, QaShontae Short filed a lawsuit against Richard Jordan for close to eight lakh rupees (10 thousand dollars) after he failed to show up for a date. She alleged that he “left on her mother’s birthday and her mom had just passed away”.

Jordan, on the other hand, called the case a “waste of time” and told the judge that he assumed the case would be thrown out. He said, “We had a date, one date, and nothing else after that, and now I’m being sued for 10 thousand dollars. I think this is a waste of your time.”
Judge Herman Marable, who was presiding over the case, responded that if he believed that the case should be dismissed from court, he needed to file the appropriate motion. Marable said that the Michigan woman’s charge was not “justiciable in district court” and added that it should have been brought in circuit court.
Short and Judge Marable then argued the semantics of perjury after Short accused Jordan of being a perjurer. She claimed that Jordan had lied and that she had documents that proved the same. Marable asked Short if she understood what perjury is, and she incorrectly said that perjury was when a person lied. The judge clarified that perjury is a false statement under oath, thus Jordan had not committed perjury.
Following the debate regarding legal semantics, Short agreed to follow the Judge’s suggestion of transferring the case to circuit court. Judge Marable demanded that the plaintiff Short would foot the fees for filing the case, and that her suit would be thrown from court if she did not pay the fees within 56 days.
Short had previously filed lawsuits against the Flint Police Department and AT&T, both suits were dismissed.
