Singer Kalyani Menon, who sang many Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu films, passed away on August 2 in Chennai. The news of her demise was confirmed by cinematographer Santosh Sivan. Menon was 80 years old. The cause of her death is reported to be paralysis.

The late singer is survived by her son Rajiv Menon is a noted filmmaker of the south Indian film industry.

Santosh Sivan in his tweet wrote, "Legend Classical singer Smt Kalyani Menon. RIP She is mother of Rajiv Menon, my deep condolences to the family (sic). Kalyani Menon was reportedly admitted to a private hospital in Chennai when she took her last breath on Monday.

The singer has a long list of credits in the south Indian film industry. She has worked with the stalwarts such as Ilaiyaraaja, M Jayachandran, A R Rahman and Govind Vasantha.

Kalyani Menon has sung songs in Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil. She became famous after the release of the Malayalam film Dweepu, which was directed by Ramu Kariat. A few of her popular songs are Phoolon Jaisi Ladki, Omane Penne, Vaadi Saathukodi, Kundanapu Bomma and Kuluvalile.

Many of her fans, friends and followers took to social media to pay their tributes to the late singer and offer condolences to her family members.
