Mrinalini secured 3,524 votes, defeating Manoranjan Kumar Raja to become the first female President of the Patna University Student Union (PUSU).

Student leader Maithili Mrinalini made history as the first woman elected as President of the Patna University Student Union (PUSU) in its 107-year history, IANS reported. The leader of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) secured 3,524 votes, defeating Manoranjan Kumar Raja of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) by 603 votes on March 29. With Mrinalini's victory, the ABVP returned to the post of President in the PUSU after 13 years.

According to All India Radio, two other women have clinched key positions in this election. Saloni Raj, an independent candidate, was elected General Secretary, while Soumya Shrivastava of NSUI bagged the post of Treasurer. Dhiraj Kumar (independent), was elected Vice President, and Rohan Kumar of NSUI won the Joint Secretary post.

Maithili Mrinalini makes history: Who is she?

Maithili Mrinalini hails from the Munger district and is a student of Patna Women's College. She was the only candidate for the post of President from this college. Besides student politics, Mrinalini is a Taekwondo champion and has also received a sporting honour from the Governor of Bihar, according to Zee.

Upon her historic victory, Mrinalini told IANS, "A huge, huge thank you for showing your support and placing your trust in me. I am not just overwhelmed with happiness but also deeply aware of the immense sense of responsibility that comes with it. I never want to let down the faith the students have shown in me."

Vice President Dheeraj Kumar won the election with 1789 votes. Treasurer Saumya Srivastava won the election with 2707 votes. General Secretary Saloni Raj won with 4274 votes. Joint Secretary Rohan Kumar won with 2273 votes. For this PUSU election, 40 voting centres were set up, with the most (seven) in Patna Women's College.
