On January 13 an upset father poisoned his son Vishal (14) over watching adult films on his phone and regularly receiving complaints from his school for his misbehaviour with girls and not paying attention at school and studies.

As per the complaint, in the morning Battu took his son for a drive on his bike to Tuljapur Road and offered him a cold drink mixed with poison. After drinking the cold drink, Vishal fell unconscious and Varun threw him into a drain near his residence.

Battu hid his crime from his wife and took her to lodge a missing complaint of their son on January 14 after which the police started a probe into the matter.

Soon the body of the deceased teenager was found in a drain near the couple's home and Battu identified the body as his son Vishal. After the autopsy report, it was discovered the boy was poisoned with Sodium Nitrate which resulted in his death.

After registering a case of murder, police began questioning the family and noticed discrepancies in their responses. However, Battu did not confess his crime.

As the probe into the matter continued, on January 28, Battu confessed to his crime of murdering their son to his wife Keerti who then informed the police the next day about her husband's confession.

Battu shared he was distressed by his son's behaviour at home and claimed to get complaints about the teenager's bad behaviour from the school. He was worried his son wouldn't study and his addiction to watching obscene videos on his phone as Battu alleged that his son had turned a deaf ear on their requests to mend his ways.

The court has now sent the father into two-day custody and further procedure is underway.

The case highlights the importance of sex education especially for teenagers and proper counselling and guidance for parents dealing with their teenagers to curb such extreme reactions. A dire need for conversations about sex in the country is the need of the hour. Akshay Kumar's film OMG 2 broke the barrier encouraging open dialogue in society.
