Coerced For Sex, Madhya Pradesh Woman Chops Off Husband's Genitals

A woman in Madhya Pradesh allegedly chopped off her husband's genitals after he forced her to have sex, reports said Tuesday. The incident occurred last week in Ramnagar area, where the young couple resided. The two reportedly married in 2019 and after a brief separation period had been living together now.

The police have registered a case and an investigation in the matter is on, as per news agency PTI. 

The man had to undergo surgery following the action his wife took. He reached out to police over the weekend and informed them of what had happened. As per officials, the 24-year-old woman severed his private parts when he allegedly tried to have sex with her against her wishes.

This is not the first such instance of men's genitals being chopped off in India, with a range of reasons cited for the mutilation.

In March, another woman from Madhya Pradesh had reportedly cut off the penis of a man who allegedly attempted to sexually assault her. The woman claimed she was alone at home with her teen son when a man intruded and made advances at her. She picked up a sickle from under a bed and defended herself. A case was registered against both parties.

Back in 2017, in a case that grabbed eyeballs, a woman in Tamil Nadu allegedly cut off the privates of her husband when he was sleeping, following a fight over accusations of extramarital affairs. According to reports at the time, she carried the chopped penis in her purse to her parents' house. She was later arrested.

The act of a person severing their partner's genitals is called 'bobbitisation', taken from the infamous John and Lorena Bobbit case from 1990s United States. In 1993, Lorena cut off John's penis when he was asleep, on the accusation that he raped her. She disposed of the appendage on a roadside before proceeding to alert the police about what had transpired.

During the trial in the case, Lorena said her husband sexually and physically assaulted her through their marriage. Lorena, who was arrested, was later released while the initial charges of rape against John were also dropped. The couple parted ways in 1995.
