Lata Mangeshkar Showing Signs Of Improvement, To Remain Under Observation

In early January this year, the veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar was hospitalised after contracting coronavirus. She has been undergoing treatment in the Intensive Unit Care (ICU) for a long time. Today, an official statement on her health was made saying, she is showing signs of improvement.

The statement, reported by the news agency ANI, also stated that even though she is showing improvement, she will remain under observation of the team of doctors. The 92-year-old is being treated at Breach Candy hospital in Mumbai. She was admitted to the hospital with mild symptoms and during that time her niece, Rachna Shah said that she has been kept in ICU.

"She is doing fine; has been kept in ICU only for precautionary reasons considering her age. Please respect our privacy and keep Didi in your prayers," Shah said. The doctor, who is treating Mangeshkar, Dr Pratit Samdhani said, "Singer Lata Mangeshkar continues to be in the ICU ward. She will be under observation for 10-12 days. Along with COVID, she is also suffering from pneumonia."

On January 25, the spokesperson of Lata Mangeshkar tweeted from her official account and stated, "There is a marginal improvement in Lata Didi's health and she continues to be in ICU. Kindly refrain from spreading disturbing rumours or falling prey to random messages regarding Didi's health. Thank you." She was admitted to the hospital on January 8.

After the news of her being admitted to the hospital got out, her fans and followers have been restless. Satyawan Geete, an autorickshaw driver in Mumbai reportedly dedicated his life earnings to the singer's well-being.

In 2019, the singer was admitted to the hospital with breathing issues. Mangeshkar has been singing and reigning over people's love for music for seven decades. Along with the massive following that she has, Mangeshkar has been awarded Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, Dada Saheb Phalke award and many National Film awards.

She has lent her voice to songs in over 1,000 Hindi, regional and foreign films as well. She is also the most recorded artist in the history of the Guinness Book of Records.
