UP: Six Cops Suspended After Woman Assaulted At Panchayat Polls Site

As per reports, Uttar Pradesh's Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the polling sites should have proper security and the one's guilty of the woman's assault at Lakhimpur Kheri will be strictly punished.

Lakhimpur Kheri Panchayat Polls: After the incident of a Samajwadi Party (SP), a woman's saree being pulled at the panchayat polls site in Lakhimpur Kheri, one police circle officer along with an SHO and four other police officers were suspended for their laxity on Friday.

The suspended officers were identified in a report as SHO Pasgawan Adarsh, Hanuman Prasad crime branch inspector and sub-inspectors Ugrasen Singh, Mahesh Pratap and Durgesh Gangwar.

As per reports, Uttar Pradesh's Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the polling sites should have proper security and the one's guilty of the woman's assault at Lakhimpur Kheri will be strictly punished.

The CM said that the police must be sensitive and vigilant and that the weapons of the suspended officers will be taken away. The superintendent of police of Lakhimpur Kheri has stated that the two persons accused of misbehaving with the woman have been arrested and they will soon be presented in court.

“The two have been booked under the charges of sexual assault, rioting, punishment for undue influence or personation at an election and robbery, " he said.

In a viral video on Thursday, a woman had visited the Lakhimpur Kheri panchayat poll site to propose for a Samajwadi Party candidate was assaulted. Her saree was seen being pulled by two men in the video.
