Tamil Nadu based politician Khushbu Sundar resigned from the Congress party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday. She was one of the Congress's most well-known defenders. She quit the party ahead of the Tamil Nadu polls. Today, the actor-turned-politician Sundar resigned from the Congress party citing that she felt "pushed and suppressed" by people who had "no connect with ground reality."

“If the nation has to move forward, then we need somebody like Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take the country in the right direction,” she told reporters from a welcoming ceremony in Delhi after joining the BJP. “My expectation from BJP isn’t about what party is going to do for me, but about what party is going to do for people of the country. When you’ve 128 cr people actually believing in one man and that’s our PM, I think they’re doing something absolutely right,” she told ANI.

Sundar had been with the Congress party for almost six years since 2014. Before quitting the party, in her resignation letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Sundar wrote, “Few elements seated at higher level within the party, people who’ve no connectivity with ground reality or public recognition, are dictating terms.”

Sundar, 50, began her political career by joining Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party in 2010. It was soon after she played the role of political leader and activist Periyar's wife Maniammai in a biographical film. At the time, she had said, "I think I made the right decision. I love to serve people. I want to work for the betterment of women."

On Monday morning AICC removed her as a spokesperson with immediate effect after she resigned saying "forced to bid the party goodbye" because of "bad treatment" by party seniors.
