Kerala Woman Dowry harassment case: A young woman from Kerala was found dead on Monday morning after reportedly being physically abused by her husband over dowry.

The woman sent the pictures of her injuries due to domestic violence to her cousin. Her body was found at her in-laws' residence in the Kollam district.

  • As per recent reports, S Kiran Kumar, the deceased woman's husband has surrendered before Sooranad police on Monday night, the same day of her death. Her family filed a complaint against Kumar and the police have registered a case against him. As per reports, he is being questioned in the case.
  • The deceased, Vismaya V Nair, was a 24-year-old final year student of Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery and was living in Kerala. She got married to S Kiran Kumar in March 2020 in an arranged marriage.
  • S Kiran Kumar reportedly had dowry demands and Nair's family had given him 100 sovereigns, one acre of land and a Toyota Yaris car. But Kumar allegedly wanted cash instead of a car and hence he was pressurising Nair's family to sell the car off.
  • Kumar physically assaulted Nair due to the dowry demands. The family alleged that Kumar had come to their place drunk beat up Vismaya Nair. When her brother went to ask Kumar about it, he reportedly beat him up too.
  • After this incident, the family filed a complaint to the patrol police. However, Kumar's family and the Circle inspector called Nair for a compromise. The family decided to let it go this time and Vismaya stayed back with her parents.
  • After two months, Nair returned to her college for her BAMS exams. Kumar allegedly picked her up from her college and took her to his home. She never returned after that, said the Nair family.
  • They added that Vismaya would only talk to her mother on phone and never with her brother or father. After this, Vismaya also had asked her cousin to take her home when Kumar went to work, according to reports.
  • She also shared pictures of herself with her cousin which showed the injuries that she sustained after the abuse from her husband. She was found dead in the house two days after that. Her body was taken to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College for autopsy.
  • Kerala Women's Commission has taken suo motto cognisance of Vismaya's death. A case has been registered under section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The police officials said that the investigation has just begun in the Kerala woman dowry harassment case.
