P.K. Sreemathi, who is the former State Minister of Women and children said that she had raised the issue with the Kerala CM, Left Democratic Convenore A. Vijayaraghavan, CPI-M Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. Sreemathi reportedly told Anupama that CM Vijayan had said that the state government and the LDF part have no role to play in the matter and that her parents should get to decide. Anupama in her statements has said that both her parents are CPI-M members and yet the party has not taken any action.

On being asked about her earlier promise to take up the matter to the party's higher-ups, she said that as per the rules, Vijayaraghavan should take up the matter first but since he did not flag it, she cannot do anything about it.

Anupama while speaking to the media expressed disappointment that even the Chief Minister failed to act in her case. She said, "What Vijayan fails to understand is that the Chief Minister is the chairman of the Child Welfare Committee."

At first, Anupama had reportedly raised the matter with CPI member Brinda Karat who had directed Sreemathi to look into it. She has been on indefinite protest standing outside the office of Kerala State Child Welfare Council demanding the removal of Child Welfare Committee top officials. She had alleged that they are behind handing over her baby to adoptive parents without her consent.

She had alleged that the authorities even after multiple complaints have not paid attention to her case. Anupama is the granddaughter of one of the topmost politicians of the CPI-M party. Her husband Ajith is also a member of the party. The latter had reached out to the State Police chief and Child Welfare Committee in this regard.

According to sources, the Child Welfare Committee had allegedly given away Anupama's child to an Andhra Pradesh couple for adoption last year. Anupama has alleged that her parents gave her child away to CWC without her consent.
