La Bal Des Debutantes is the most anticipated ball for elite young girls. Every year, 25 girls from elite families around the world make their official public debut in Paris. And every year, there are a few young Indian girls who also appear.
This year, actor Chunky Panday’s 19-year-old daughter Ananya made her debut in a fitted blue gown by designer Jean Paul Gaultier. She was escorted by Prince Philip of Arenberg. The young girl is all set to enter Bollywood, following in her father’s footsteps
Even young men from prestigious families have a role to play, and act as escorts to the debutantes. Ananya’s cousin Ahaan Panday was the escort to Princess Alice of Belgium.
This year, Gauravi Kumari, daughter of Jaipur royal Diya Kumari, also made a debut at the ball. To prepare for it, the NYU student took waltz lessons. The Maharaja of Jaipur, Padmanabh Singh, also made his debut, and escorted Reese Witherspoon’s daughter, Ava Philipe, and the two danced to a song from the movie ‘La La Land’.
The ball is an annual event which brings girls aged 16-22 from around the world. It is a European tradition which marks the beginning of a girl’s public life. In the past, it was to showcase girls in wealthy and aristocratic so that they could receive proposals for marriage.
Every year, daughters of industrialists, film stars, billionaires and politicians gather together at Hotel de Crillon in Paris.
